Hi,

I’m Karolina and I’m a 24 year old student specializing in interior design. For a long time I have dreamed of designing and creating spaces and now I´m on a learning journey to see where it gets me. The part of the design process I particularly enjoy is the 3D building and rendering. I´m also very keen to learn new softwares to help me bring my ideas and designs to life.

ILLUMINATION AND ACCOUSTICS
2024
Designing an coworking office in an existing space, focusing on lighting and accoustics.

The starting point was making a concept board to find my illumination concept for the space. I chose to focus on fluidity, organic shapes that bring in natural light, and the use of "flow". The main purpose was to use natural light as much as possible when it´s available, and make use of artificial light only at night time or when it´s dark outside. The objective of the interior was to create a space that felt calm, natural, non-invasive. A space where you can spend hours working and it doesn´t make you feel unnecessarily overstimulated like cafés.

After making the concept board, I took the empty floorplan and created a distribution that would fit around 30 people (as was asked). It includes a working space, a counter at the entrance, a bathroom and a mini coffee area.

The concept is a flow of light that highlights the area in a circular and fluid way.
It creates a kind of path through the space and encompass the furniture. It also separates the space into different zones.
Another point of the concept is the reflection of the light from the ceiling and the floor and how it changes throughout the day and the evening.
Throughout the day, the ceiling is the most important light source, where it provides natural light but also creates shapes on the ground depending on the time of day and the intensity of the sun.
At night, the light source is the floor with LED lights (and also table and pendant lamps).
The light in space changes throughout the day depending on the weather, but remains the same at night.

This is the color palette I chose for the project - neutral and warms, tone in tone.

This is the material palette i chose. The materials were specifically chosen to fit into a creative space that should feel comfortable, neutral and airy. The focus was also on choosing specific materials to act as acoustic layers - whether it was to absorb sound or keep the sound from entering inside

the space.

After building the 3D model, I applied all the materials and the color palette to it. I also chose specific furniture to fit the space and the concept. The whole space is kept clean with minimum of furniture - only necessary things that are used all the time.
